Air to air heat pumps

Air source heat pumps absorb heat from the outside air.  This heat can then used to warm water for radiators or underfloor heating systems, or to warm the air in your home.

An air source heat pump extracts heat from the outside air in the same way that a fridge extracts heat from its inside.  It can extract heat from the air even when the outside temperature is as low as minus 15 degrees centrigrade.

There are two main types:

An air-to water system uses the heat to warm water.  Heat pumps heat water to a lower temperature than a standard boiler system would, so they are more suitable for underfloor heating systems than radiator systems.

An air-to-air system produces warm air which is circulated by fans to heat your home.

The efficiency of air source heat pump systems is measured by a coefficient of performance (CoP) – the amount of heat they produce compared to the amount of electricity needed to run them.

Heat pumps

DHS can offer a range of air source heat pumps. Two systems are on offer: air to air or air to water, both offering significant savings compared with a conventional heating system.

The air source heat pumps convert the free and sustainable latent energy in the air into heat, delivering green, low-cost, energy-saving heating and hot water all year round.

Air to Air heat pumps

Air to Air Heat Pumps can provide heating and cooling for the home.  They can also feature air purification technology which is particularly beneficial to allergy sufferers.

The heat pump comprises an outdoor and an indoor unit which convert latent energy in the air (even on the coldest days) into heat for your home. The outdoor unit extracts the energy in air outside the property. This heat, absorbed by refrigerant solution within the unit, is turned into hot air by the indoor unit and distributed within the property.

Air source heat pumps are suitable for a wide range of installations including apartments, smaller homes and conservatories. It’s operated using a remote control.

Efficiency

Air to Air Heat Pumps can have a coefficient of performance (COP) of in excess of 4.5. The CoP is a simple calculation which works out how much energy the heat pump is able to extract from the energy source compared to the amount of electrical energy used by the heat pump. i.e. for every unit of electrical energy put in the heat pump will deliver 4.5 units of heat into the room.
